Maryland Gubernatorial Candidate Ashwani Jain: Make Maryland an Abortion Sanctuary

Maryland Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Ashwani Jain weighs in on the recent news that the U.S. Supreme Court could strike down Roe v. Wade.

“There’s no such thing as “Pro-Life’”, Jain released in a tweet on Monday evening.

He continued, “You’re either FOR safe abortions or AGAINST healthcare access. As I’ve advocated since day one, I will ensure ALL have full access to Reproductive Justice in Maryland. Call it what you like, but we’ll be an Abortion Sanctuary.”

Since his campaign launch in January 2021, Jain has been a vocal advocate for enshrining essential healthcare services (like abortion care, contraceptive coverage and gender affirmation treatment) in the Maryland State Constitution; directing Medicaid to cover these services; expanding the availability of medication abortion; expanding lactation accomodations in the workplace; and requiring all public schools to have comprehensive sex-ed in health classes — where students learn about everything from abstinence to contraceptives, to period poverty, to domestic violence, to LGBTQ inclusion, gender identity and reproductive rights.
